The District's Water Department is responsible for water treatment, water quality, water resources, water conservation and backflow prevention. Our goal is to provide our customers and visitors with a safe and dependable supply of drinking water. In doing so, the District complies with a number of regulatory agencies for water quality, administrative and governmental issues. The Mt. Crested Butte Water Treatment Plant is located north of the ski area, taking advantage of two gravity flow sources. The main source is surface water pumped up from the East River. Once pumped to storage, the treated water is distributed to our many residential and commercial customers throughout Mt. Crested Butte. Pump Stations supply needed pressure to two of the upper subdivisions.
